چکیده

[1] In this study we investigate forced bars that form in a channel with periodic width variations. A depth-averaged two-dimensional (2-D) model incorporating a simplified correction for the helical flows induced by streamline curvature is used to obtain analytical solution of bed deformation. Flume experiments are conducted to verify the model results. With the correction included, the 2-D model will be comparable to the 3-D model. Because the no-slip condition is relaxed at the sidewalls, the model gives distorted results in the near-bank region, particularly at narrow sections, but the bed topography is satisfactory for the major part of the channel. The forced bars are classified into four types according to the locations of peak deformations. Transition from one type to another is controlled mainly by the aspect ratio b. Increasing the value of b exhibits sequentially the purely central bars (mode 1), transverse bars (central mode 1), side bars, and transverse bars (central mode 2). The analytical solution is used to derive a criterion for central bar formation, which implies a condition required for incipient bifurcation. Given the bank profile, flow, and sediment conditions, the central bars of mode 1 would develop for b < bc1 (a lower critical value), the central bars of mode 2 would develop for b > bc2 (an upper critical value), whereas side bars would form for bc1 < b < bc2. Such criteria for formation of different bar patterns are necessary but not sufficient conditions for establishing stable regimes.

Forced convective condensation in vertical channel is investigated numerically. The condensation boundary layers that occur due to temperature difference between the walls and saturation temperature of steam is simulated by the volume of fluid (VOF) method. Geomorphic Channel Patterns of Deltas versus Distal Submarine Fans: Implications for Sedimentation Processes on Earth and Mars

Channel systems at the distal limits of submarine fans show variability in channel size and bifurcation patterns. This information is useful in constraining channel properties in static reservoir models, e.g. the mean and range of values typical for channel dimensions, sinuosity, and branching angles. Criteria were evaluated that might help discriminate between deltas and submarine fans based o...

Simulation study of Hemodynamic in Bifurcations for Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation using Electrical Analogy

Background and Objective: Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation (CAVM) hemodynamic is disease condition, results changes in the flow and pressure level in cerebral blood vessels. Measuring flow and pressure without catheter intervention along the vessel is big challenge due to vessel bifurcations/complex bifurcations in Arteriovenous Malformation patients. The vessel geometry in CAVM patients are...

Numerical study of turbulent forced convection jet flow of nanofluid in a converging sinusoidal channel

Research in convective heat transfer using suspensions of nanometer-sized solid particles in base liquids started only over the past decade. Recent investigations on nanofluid, as such suspensions are often called, indicate that the suspended nanoparticles remarkably change the transport properties and heat transfer characteristics of the suspension. Bending walls can also improve heat transfer...

Front explosion in a resonantly forced complex Ginzburg–Landau system

Periodically forced oscillatory reaction–diffusion systems near the Hopf bifurcation can be modeled by the resonantly forced complex Ginzburg–Landau equation. In the 3:1 resonant locking regime this equation has three stable fixed points corresponding to the phase-locked states in the underlying reaction–diffusion system. Phase fronts separate spatial domains containing the phase-locked states....
